Most people think that happiness is something that you get to feel when something good happens in your life.
You buy the new outfit or car or dream house. You get the job or grade you wanted. You go on the vacation. Someone does something or says something kind. You make every green light. You get a bonus or a raise. Your child or spouse did what you asked. Your child made the sports team or got into the great school.
NOW you get to feel happy.
Or do you?
Does happiness come from outside of you?
Or is it something created within?
Happiness is a feeling or emotion.
Like all emotions, happiness comes from your thinking, NOT from your circumstances.
Nothing that you can ever own or purchase can make you feel happy.
Nothing anyone can say or do can make you feel happy.
Nothing that you say or do can make you feel happy.
That is, until you have a thought about these things.
Without thoughts, any words, actions, material things, and so on, have no effect on your emotional state.
Without thought, you have no emotion.
Think about that for a minute.
A person who is unconscious may be alive, but they have no feelings, at least none of which they are aware.
If you are alive and conscious, then your brain is constantly creating thoughts and it’s those sentences that are generating feelings within you.
This is incredibly good news, because that means YOU have more control over your emotions than you realized.
If thoughts are what generate your emotions, that means your emotions ALWAYS come from within you and you can DECIDE how you want to feel at any given moment and with any given circumstance in your life.
You can decide if you want to feel good or bad about something and there is no right or wrong answer here. Just because you feel bad, there is nothing wrong with that as long as you recognize where that negative emotion is actually coming from.
Once you understand that all emotions, the good and the bad, come from your own thinking, this knowledge allows you to live your life so much more empowered rather than helpless and at the effect of your circumstances.
It allows you to move your life in the direction you want rather than being a slave to your condition.
