By this time at the end of January, most people have all but given up on their New Years resolutions.
We started off so motivated and excited.
Things are going to be different this year.
We are going to be different, better.
Maybe it’s a new routine such as working out.
Or maybe it’s a new diet.
Or maybe it’s a change in our character trait. We’re going to be more patient, for instance.
And it seems to work for a day, or two, or three. Maybe it lasts a few weeks.
But slowly the motivation diminishes and so does the excitement.
Now it just feels more like a chore.
It’s not as fun to keep this going.
It takes a lot of work and effort. Too much sometimes.
So the workouts get fewer and farther between.
We cheat more on the diet.
We lose our patience more often.
We’re back to square one.
Nothing has changed.
Why is it so hard?!?!
The main difference between those who get results and those who don’t is simply their level of commitment.
The Merriam-Webster dictionary defines “commitment” as an agreement or pledge to do something in the future.
That doesn’t mean you are just going to dabble in something new.
It doesn’t mean you are going to just see how it goes or just give it a try.
To be committed to something means you have pledged to do something no matter what.
It means you have agreed to achieve your result no matter what.
It means your are willing to take massive action as long as it takes to get the result you want.
To commit to something is a completely different energy than to try something.
What happens if you try and you don’t get the result you wanted?
If you are committed, it doesn’t matter.
You will just keep going.
You may tweak your approach or do something different, but you won’t give up.
You won’t fail because failure can only happen if you quit.
Those who are committed won’t quit, so they will never fail.
How committed are you to your goals?
Did you create a goal that you tried to achieve or did you commit to your goal?
