Brain and Body Reboot Day 4 – Your Thoughts Create Your Results

Over the last three days I introduced the concepts of your relationship with you, the story you have about yourself, which is reflected in the results of your life right now and the story of the life that you want to be living.

These two stories may feel very far apart right now.

But I’m going to show you how they are much closer to each other than you think.

We are going to make this very concrete right now.

I want you to imagine two separate places.

The first place is where you are now.

The second place is where you want to be.

Since we are talking about weight loss this month, let’s pick a goal right now. 

I want you to choose your personal goal for the month.

Let’s say your goal is to lose 6 pounds.

So where you are now is your current weight and where you want to be is 6 pounds less than that.

You are going to write down your goal. Make this goal very concrete and with a deadline.

Example: I will lose 6 pounds by 5/31/2022.

Now this is the part where you will really want to pay attention.

When you write this down, all kinds of thoughts are going to come up for you.

These thoughts are going to generate feelings for you and those feelings will lead to actions which will create your results.

These thoughts may sound like the following:

“It’s too hard.”

“It’s impossible.”

“I’ve never done it before.”

“I’ll be too hungry.”

“I like food too much.”

“I don’t have enough self-control.”

“I don’t have enough time to plan meals or eat healthy.”

You’ll start to notice how your brain is full of so many negative thoughts.

With this kind of thinking, there is no way for you to get the result that you want.

These negative thoughts are going to generate negative feelings for you which will only cause you to overeat to get out of feeling that way.

But please don’t try to get rid of these thoughts right now.

All the thoughts that come to the surface and keep you from reaching your goal are actually the KEY to getting you there.

Up until this point, without realizing it, you have been using your thoughts against yourself and they have been keeping you stuck exactly where you are.

These thoughts will now become the answer to how you get to your goal.

Stay tuned to day 5 when I will discuss how your thoughts go from being your biggest obstacle to your greatest strategy for reaching your goal.

Actions to take today:

  1. Write down your specific goal and deadline.
  2. Do a thought dump on all the thoughts that come up when you read that goal. Spend five to ten minutes writing down every thought that comes to your head when you think of your goal.
