Brain and Body Reboot Day 2 – What Is Your Story?

Everyone has a story they tell themselves about their life.

It is a very well-developed story with a title and a beginning, a middle and an end.

The ending or conclusion of your story is the life you are living right now.

Your story is who you see yourself to be and the self-concept you end up living.

If your life was a story, what would the title be?

Write it down.

This shouldn’t take very long.

Don’t think too hard.

Just write the first honest title that comes to your mind.

Your title may sound something like this:

“Why I Can’t Catch A Break”

“How greatly I’ve suffered”

“How X Ruined My life”

“I Can’t Lose Weight, but if I Could, Life Would Be Better”

“I’m addicted to sugar and like food too much”

I used to have a story that read something like this:

“My Stressful Life”

My story was about how I always had too much to do and too little time. I had no control over my schedule at work or at home. I also had no control over myself around sweets. It was the story about how this was my only real vice, so it was okay. It was a story about how I was just trying to stay afloat and every time I came up for air, something new pushed me down. The story was about struggle and perfectionism and lack of willpower and control.

Sound familiar to anyone reading this?

This was the story I ended up living for years and years.

What is your story?

Once you have written down the title, take ten or fifteen minutes to write down the chapter headings and maybe two or three sentences in each one. Please don’t make this fancy. Just write whatever comes to mind.

As an example, here’s an excerpt from my story, “My Stressful Life”, chapter 2, The College Years:

“Everyone is having fun, but I’m here for a reason. I study and go to work when everyone else is partying. I’m here to learn and get into medical school. There will be time for fun when I have my dream career.”

Hmmm. Interesting what came out when I didn’t think too hard.

Now it’s your turn.

It’s time to write your story.

This book is going to uncover the story that you have been telling yourself all your life.

If you’re brave, please share your story title and perhaps some of the chapters within.
